Marineland PRO Stealth Heater Voluntary Recall.

A letter from PetSmart to their customers is being posted in various fish forums on the web. Here is the letter:

    February 11, 2011

    Dear Valued PetSmart Pet Parent,

Marineland has issued a voluntary withdrawal of the Stealth PRO Submersible Heater (100, 200 and 250 watt). The product is being withdrawn due to a quality issue.

If you have this product, please stop using it immediately and take the following steps:

    1. Unplug the heater from the wall to stop the flow of electricity
    2. Let the heater cool for 15 minutes
    3. Remove the heater from the tank

Please bring the product to your closest PetSmart for a full refund or exchange. Replace the product with a comparable heater as soon as possible to maintain the temperature of your aquarium. A PetSmart store associate can help you select the right heater for your aquatic environment.

If you have questions about this withdrawal, please call Marineland Customer Service at 800-526-0650 or 800-432-6986.

At PetSmart, we are concerned pet parents, too. We will continue to do everything we can to help you and your pet during this time.

    Sincerely,

    Debbie Gonzalez
Vice President, Brand and Customer Marketing

I thought this was for heaters with the serial #01H31 only, but this was taken off another forum and may be faulty info. I know others have received the email as above.

Why is there nothing on Marineland's website about this?

I received that letter on Friday. Marineland said they were reporting problems with the Stealth heaters. They said the Stealth Pro heaters will not be shipped again till they find the problem. Models: ML90450 100w, ML 90451 150w, ML90452 200w, ML90453 250w, ML90454 300w.

    Retailers should remove all Stealth heaters from their shelves. Models:ETP 100 100w, ETP150 150w, ETP200 200w, ETP250 250W.

Marinland recommends Visi-therm heaters as a replacement, 100w - 400w. (I have had more problem with the Visi-Therm heaters than any at all.)

    Heaters not effected by this action are Models: ML90456 10w, ML90447 25w, ML90448 50w, ML90449 75w.

You can call them at 1-800-526-0650 (option 2) or 1-800-432-6986 with any questions or for a replacement. cursing

well fudge! my visi-therm just shattered and was going to replace it with another stealth. i don't want to exchange my stealth and get stuck with something even worse.
ebo jagers have been getting bad reviews lately, they are putting out lower quality products since the buy out.

so maybe i just have to use three 75w stealth heaters.

are there no trustworthy heaters out there now?

    suggestions?

hydra, tetra, aqua clear, rena, fluval?
