Hey Ladies n Gents My Name is Rusty I am from Arkansas I am new to Cichlids and my daughter throws a fit for them everytime we go to the pet store we have 2 10g fish tanks one is hers and has 2 mollys and 2 Micky Mouse Fish the other one is in the Kitchen on the counter and has crushed coral and about 6 baby Kenyi in them My Project is to get a Big Tank Set up in our living room looks like it will be atleast a 70g or larger But I do need to know what is better to help me keep the Ph lvl up Live Sand or Crushed Coral? If anyone Has Skype Please Add me my name is pvtqueball25 on there I hope to get to know all of yall better and learn more about cichlids!

Welcome. I use Home Depot playground sand in my tanks. It is cheap and you can but big bags. It works for me. fish fish fish fish fish

I use the silica sand and mix in black tahitian moon sand. It has a granite look when your done.

wadup wit it man glad to meet you! I would say go with the LS(live sand) CC tends to just collect and trap trash, even if you have a deep bed of CC, it will just sink to the bottom of the substrate and keep your nitrates up,you can stay on top of it with frequent deep cleaning of your substrate. Beneficial bacteria works better in a DSB (deep sand bed)
