| Good points, folks! The point of the article, though, was to note that a new species of crawfish was discovered in a place that had already been highly explored. Discovering new species in highly populated areas is unusual, and that was the point of the excitement over the discovery. I don't think they were saying, "this is the biggest crawfish ever!" - aleta wrote:

| Interesting article - wasn't thinkin' that was huge for a crawdad myself because even up here in the PNW we get some good sized crawdads. | |

| I think it is cool that there can be a NEW species found in an area where people commonly collect specimens - where has it been hiding? It makes you wonder how many other animal species we have not yet identified in our own country. So when you find a cool critter, get a pic - maybe they'll name it after you! | |

| It's so true North America has quite a range of aquatic animals yet they are considered inferior to tropicals. Take a look at some of our sunfish in North America beautiful and can be kept in aquariums. |
