| I cleaned the filter and caked on salt. I haven't had an aquarium in 20 years and had good luck then but used really hardy fish had oscars alligator gar and another tank with guppies and mollies. I'm new to cycling and don't want to be out hundreds figuring out what to do. ANy help greatly appreciated. I ask people at the local pet store but the fish appear half dead and the 17 yr. olds working there don't seem to know anything about it. | |

| The equipment is used but has been sitting in storage it was also a saltwater tank and I plan on using it for fresh water. Should I just get some hardy feeder type fish for a few weeks until it cycles. I just started reading about cycling 20 years ago I never really did much added fish a few at a time and used let the water a while before using. | |

| If you can get some used filter media from someone and depending on how your tank water is a day or two. If not a week should be good, you could get some guppies or something that will help jump strata the bacteria too. The easiest thing would get some used filter media and use it for a couple of days. | |

| rinse, rinse, rinse... I'm sure you did that.
also regular water changes will dilute any remaining salts and chems from the old tank that's now dissolved in the water.
good luck! | |
