I was wondering if anyone knows how often you have to change out the filter blocks?
I just got mine not too long ago and my friend says that I don't have to change it for awhile and that I just have to rinse off all of the waste that sticks to it. Please let me know. Thanks...

I've had mine for about 2 years now. I was thinking of changing them out but they look fine and traps debris just fine, it may last me another year.

I change mine every 5-6 months. I only change 3 out of the 6 that way the other 3 still have good bacteria on it.

The filter blocks, as in foam filters on the side of filter or the polishing pad/foam filters on the inside?

The foam type pads I just rinse off and keep on going. They clean out really well and I never have a problem with them.

The polishing pads I replace every 3 or so months but on a planted tank you get extra gunk in it.

I know I have said it a few times before but if you use a pre filter on the intake line it really cuts back on the need to do pad changes. Just make it a point to squeeze the filter out at each water change.

I have had mine for a couple of years and have not changed out the foam blocks. I rinse them out about every 3 months, and until they start breaking down I will keep them. This is what I do with the foam media in all my filters.
