| Is there any disinfectant i can use to wash out a tank that had a sick and dead fish in it? Something you dont have to rinse and rinse and rinse forever? Everytime i use bleach i can still smell it after rinsing it forever I hate that | |

| an even beter one that I have been using for years, Hydrogen Peroxide get a large bottle its not much like two bucks, and get one of your empty sprayers in the kitchen fill it with the HP and spray the whole tank down and anything else, and just rinse with water, I cant remember when was the last time I used any medication it probably goes back 10yrs or so, am shure some of those chemical companies are loving me right about now, LOL it works for me very good, hope this can help. | |

| I was reading about a similar topic about this the other day. From what people were saying is that Bleach is a gas and after rinsed well it needs to dry out for the gasses to fully evaporate and smell/residue to be gone. I'm no expert by any means, just passing on some info I picked up the other day in my reads.

| rubbing alcohol here. I hardly ever use anything in my tanks but if a tank needs a cleaning that is what I use and have never had an issue. | |

| I have used bleach for years, but only for accessaries. Filter cart. and holey rock etc. Yes I do usually let dry in the sun for a few days. I have never used it to clean a tank. I think I would use the vinegar and water for the tanks as well! | |

| I use vinegar to clean all my tanks. I mix it about 50/50 with water. | |

| Formaldehyde. Also for salt water use fresh water. Freshwater use a heavy mixture of saltwater. | |

| Depends actually. You said there was illness in the tank? Do you possibly know what type of illness? That is the key.
If its just a case of dead fish or old tank needs a good cleaning, I would say distilled white vinegar is sufficient enough. You can cut it with water if you'd like. Works well when cleaning tanks and accessories. I use vinegar when cleaning everything from tanks to lights.
Now if we're talking about illness in the tank like ich or TB, that's a different ballgame. Then you want to use bleach or PP. Ensure to fill the tank to the rim and let soak for several hours when doing this. Rinse very well afterwards. Fill to the rim again with fresh water and treat with a good dechlorinator like Prime. You DO want to overdose the Prime at this point. Use at least 3x standard dosing. So it would be 6 drops/gallon minimum. Let that sit in for spell and then rinse well again. | |

| I do the bleach then prime method.
Then I let it all sit out in the sun for a week, nothing beats good old UV radiation! |

| Hydrogen Peroxide. Safe (for both of you) and cheap. White vinegar to remove water deposits is good. Drain and dry in the sun. | |
