I know there is lace Pagoda and holey, etc.. but wondering what everyone else recommends, and are currently using? And if there are any reasonable deals?

Well currently just an Oscar that I have had over 2 years now, and and a couple of Convicts, and a pleco. I have them all in a 75Gal with just regular gravel. (But looking at moving over to sand, just have not had the time yet) With plenty of hiding places. The PH currently is at 7.4

well the oscars prefer to live in soft water with a ph around 7. convicts like slightly harder water and can be in slightly higher ph. as with most fish, keeping a constant ph and hardness is more important than hitting a specific level. taken that into acount i would stay away from holey rock. holey rock will greatly increase the hardness of the water and thus can increase pH. lace rock would be a better choice. plecos on the other hand love to have some wood to munch on, but they dont need wood. wood will soften water and thus lower ph a bit. it you want to you can mix a little hoey rock and driftwood to keep your current water parameters and give extra hiding spots. I personally would opt for lace rock.
