| Ok I added 5 Emperor tetras Sunday...Monday morning..3 had died... Yesterday morning, 1 white cloud had died and 2 more were not looking well.. I moved the 2 that were struggling to another tank where they eventually died.. I noticed that it looked like they could not close their mouths and their mouths may have been red. It was really odd. Dont remember ever seeing anything like that. I believe the Emperors brought something with them. The other 2 Emperors 1 white cloud 5 neons and 2 cory's seem fine. I must admit Im shocked the White clouds got sick but not the neons.. Any thoughts or ideas on what is going on? I went ahead and did a slight water change as well.

| What was the ph in your tank? use a little peat moss in your filter. turns water tea color and will disappear in a day or two. boil your peat moss first before using. About 5 mins will do the trick. Never put salt!!! Will raise the ph!!! | |

| your chemistry is off tropheus. salt is pH neutral. peat on the other hand will lower your pH.
any salt for that matter is practically pH neutral. some salts like sodium carbonate are slightly basic, but for an aquarium its rather negligible as its buffered very easily.
salt is great as a medication, and i cant imagine that adding peat moss will be bad (youll just get acidic black water) the tetras wont mind the acidic pH, theyll probably like it. and the water will get a nice tea-color tint to it as tropheus said.
