PostSubject: Mystery Snail Shells   11/5/2010, 12:59 pm

Have seen several post about cuttle bones and calcium suppliments for snail shells.
    Just have a few Questions..

    1. Has anyone ever tried to use "reef" type calcium supplements. And if so what dosage per gallon roughly?
    2. I have started using weekly feeder (first ingredient calcium carbonate) Will this help my snails shell become stronger? Useing coralife spirulinia weekly feeders.
    3. If I use a cuttle bone how long should i leave it in the tank. Should it be enclosed in a mesh bag? Do they deteriarate and cause water quality problems? How much of the cuttle bone should go into the tank?

Thanks for the help...really liking my blue mysteries and do not want to see anything bad happen to them

Just add some sea shells, its much safer!
They will slowly dissolve in the water and the snails will also eat algae off them and get some that way too.

You can leave the cuttle bone in there for the duration. It won't pose any dangers. I feed a specialty food that includes calcium in it. I've heard of others using regular TUMS tablets but haven't myself.
