Hi Guys

I was wondering i have several pieces of marble laying around the house and wanted to used them in my 40g cichild tank.


Is it safe to use marble as decoration rock inside a fish tank?

Yes, I use pink marble tile and marble rocks in quite a few of my tanks. Just rinse it well and put it in.

i used to use bleach and let the rocks dry out in the sun...

However you clean rocks will work fine for the marble. All I do is wash them off well in water then they spend a few days in the sun.

I agree with Fern as I do the same. At this moment I have rocks boiling I picked up near the creek.

you and also soak in bleach and run them in the dishwasher like i do
but i dont use my dishwasher to wash dishes never have and never will

I don't have a dishwasher but i do use a weak bleach solution for rocks.

I just wash them off well with water and let good 'ol UV radiation do the rest, the sunshine here in FL is impressive and the rocks get over 100 degrees I'm sure grr

Remember that marble will leach calcium into the water....It is good for fish that like hard alkaline water and bad for those that like soft acidic water.

But decent quality marble tile with few veins has less to leach. From what I have seen its the veins that have the calcium and will dissolve away.....
