I am now happy to say that after about of month of research and asking around that i have bought my 1st ever canister filter. THE FLUVAL FX-5. I saw it being sold on Amazon for $229 brand new and with free shipping. i had to jump on that price. i will be placing it on my 180 gal. with 2 Emperor 400's. So for all my other FX-5 Lovers, tell me what are the best media to place in the baskets???

some use bio balls while other prefer the plastic scrub pads you can get in a three pack from the dollar store. they are like plastic floss. i have two trays filled with bio balls and the other has purigen.

yea that is the purigen. but i recommend the 100 ml stuff that comes in a pouch becuase the stuff is hard to contain. in the other trays or any empty space you put bio media.

As of 2am I put together and started up the FX5. Wow!!!!! I can't believe how quite the filter really is.... I filled the bottom 2 baskets with some lava rocks that i got at a local quarry. for now i put 2 bags of carbon and a polisher filter in the top basket . (i did want to put a bag or two of Seachem Purigen 100ml, but they didnt have any at the time.) The filter has been running for 70 min. now and it is really nice. I even took out the two power heads i was running to get more movement in the water. THE FX5 IS EVERYTHING I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE...... Fx-5 393849 Fx-5 393849 Fx-5 393849
