yea I hear you the more filtration the better.i have two 70 aqua clears I am not using right now wish you were in my area!!!!

im runnin a fluval fx5 on mine for the time being and its cleared it up so good it hardly even looks like water is there... also, what i've starteddoing is taking out the filer cartridges and replacing it with the nylon stuff that comes out of pillows.. i call it filter fuzz and it clears almost everything out of the tank and its virtually free!!!! just find an old used pillow and make sure the stuff doesnt say treated on it! :) good luck.

by the way... leave the bio filter if its a powerhead.. just sayin, dont wanna lose that good bacteria

yea 2 bad those would help alot sassynurse , bossman i was looking at a canister filter option but too pricy atm .

I was spending a night in internet land about a month ago on this site,
looking up discus I believe... and someone posted an entire DIY project.

The filter was made out of a big tub etc.... I took a mental note on the design,
but when I went back to get exact details I couldnt find the thread.... I checked
discus and DIY and still cant find it.... but check it out... for a 55 gal you could
make something out of a 5 gal bucket and a little tub.... and still have some
'walking money' as my Grandma says... ;).... Id sent you the link but I cant
find it... Do some snooping, if you find the thread give me a heads up, and
if I find it, I'll do the same for you.....

Im starting to feel 'comfortable' enough to start making my own designs, to save
