| OK guys here goes. Boo started life like any other mass produced albino tiger oscar, in a slimy pond/vat/tub with his bros & sisters, trying to get some food & hanging out. Then one day some idiot scooped him & some brothers & sisters out of the slimy pond/vat/tub. The idiot/idiots then decided it would be cool to take a syrienge loaded with blue dye & shoot em all full, then throw them into a tidy bowl blue holding cell/vat/tub & feed em some blue dye food. Thats right boys & girls Boo got the short end & was made a bluberry oscar. I am gonna say right now engineered fish are so wrong. I dont condone, recomend, or suggest anyone support this practice. I dont like it & like I said it is wrong. It was wrong to buy him, but sometimes doing the right thing isnt doing the right thing. I first saw him at the lfs. He was nose down, half starved & gettin his butt kicked by a bunch of albino kribensis (nasty lil fish) in the corner of the tank. I looked at him & looked at me with a big blue orange eye & it was on. I figured least I could do was give him someplace peaceful to die. I started hagling with the manager & offered her 5 for him. ' OH no hes a 25 dollar fish", I laughed. I told her hes half dead now. Nothing. I told him to hang on I would be back. He did & 2 days of badgering the store manager later I got him for 5 bucks & " AND NO DEAD FISH GUARENTEE". Whatever, right? Like I said it is wrong but Boo had no choice. The store made nothing/next to nothing on him & I have never seen another around. I fully expected him to die, he was a mess. That was a year & half ago & hes doing ok now. I take his stuff cause I figure he deserves a lil slack. I wouldnt normally waste a 75g on 3 fish. He doesnt like people & I cant blame him, can you... | |

| is he still dyed blue, or did it fade into more like a baby blue? I went to my lfs and saw this catastrophe
<a href="https://s640.photobucket.com/albums/uu130/philuponthepho/?action=view¤t=IMG_0008.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="https://2img.net/h/i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu130/philuponthepho/IMG_0008.jpg" border="0" alt="parrot cichlids"></a>
They were selling these for $40 a pop! I was like HOLY %$&! Luckily, I knew the aquarium specialist because I went to high school with him and he says it was a special order for a lady who didn't pick em up. I tried to talk him down to $10 each but he said he would get fired because the dye is $20. I checked back next week and only 1 survived. The blue one right in the middle. There was a big SOLD sign on the tank and he said he sold it for $30 to a little girl........(figures)
But yeah, adding dye to fish is retarded, and it ruins their liver. Although I have to admit it looks cool, I am all against it. | |
