I see you guys with all different varieties of Betta. Where do you get them? I'm stuck with PetSmart, Petco, and some mom and pop shops but they all only have crown tails and what they label as "regular" betta. Please help.

Check out aquabid they usually have some sweet but pricey bettas...Petco carries all types of bettas here everything except metallics and dragonscales

Call PetCo first and find out when the shipments arrive. I generally check them the next day, since they ship them in a sedating solution and I want it to wear off in order to look at behavior. I've found everything from butterfly double tails - to very iridescent (possibly dragon) Multi HM. Even Giants and Mustard Gas! Beware on buying females though - I seem to be ending up with young males sold as females. (I'm learning the hard way to differentiate)

PetSmart has a bad habit of leaving them in the blue solution which is antiparisitic. This is ok for a couple of days - but those bettas who aren't bought up fast end up getting very weakened and then they usually die. The blue solution also makes it difficult to see the true color.

Now that the Malysian/Asian producers have gotten hold of most of the varieties in the show ring - they are being mass produced like crazy! This is good for the consumer - but bad for the hobby breeder.

joodie go to your mom and pop stores with pictures and your color chooses. Ask them to ask there suppliers to ship your requested colors. The suppliers should be able to get you what you want. I haven't seen any bettas on this forum that aren't avaliable from thailand shippers. The oddest betta color I've ever seen was an orange one the color of a navel orange.

Thailand shipping is an arm and a leg due to trans shippers. Plus they say young but can't trust that statement. They die quicker (3 to 6 months) usually and are meant as breeders.

The Asians are the biggest importers of Bettas. They supply all the big major chains stores. The ones that are there are the Asians rejects that either they have out breed, are old, or have bad confirmation,color, deformities that they don't keep for there show stock or breeding stock. This does not mean that they aren't good for just a pet but you do take your chances with them.
