| I think my snails laid eggs.....I came home this evening and their are little white things on the sides of the tank. Am I right on my assumption? I'm just afraid the goldfish in the tank might beat the babies, or while he leave them alone? |

| i have the following types of snails
mystery snails, asolene spixi snails, nerite snails, and their might be a ramshorn or two left (never have luck keeping them alive so they have almost all died, other snails are just fine though)
i have a goldfish, a sparkling gourami, 4 bloodfin tetras, a small bristlenose pleco, a chinese algae eater, 2 giant danios, a rosey tetra, and a white spot tetra.
yes its overstocked...thats a bad habit of mine. my mom is setting up her fist tank so i might give her some of my fish when hers is ready so she can save some money on buying fish. |

| If they are placed all over the glass I would think they are nerite eggs. Pretty sure they require brackish or SW to develop and hatch though. |

| Goldfish love small snails and snail eggs. That's why petsmart puts a goldfish with the tropical fish. If you go back a few days later, the same goldfish is in another tank. They eat the pond snails and egg masses! |

| Usually snail eggs are all in a cluster. These are mystery snail eggs and these are asolene spixi snails And Nerite snails will only breed in brackish waters from what I know. **********USAfishbox.com************* **North Texas Chapter Leader** |

| Not sure. I have never seen it before. How often do you do water changes? Have you done anything to your water in the past month to make a sudden change in the water? Like add a bunch of new fish or anything? **********USAfishbox.com************* **North Texas Chapter Leader** |

| They are definitely eggs from your nerite. Although they'll never hatch in freshwater, the snails are still able to lay them, and they scatter them out.
They lay eggs like crazy when there is abundant diatom algae, and in the pic it looks like you have a lot of diatom (brown) algae. They love that stuff, and grow quickly eating it.
After my nerites cleaned their tank of algae, they stopped dropping so many eggs. |
