| Hello. My name is Jesse and live in Richmond, Va. I'm a beginner with fishkeeping, but I plan on doing tons of learning and getting more involved in this hobby. I work for Petsmart (Joy of all joys) in the pet care department, so I work with fish on a daily basis. I'm hoping to learn more about disease prevention and treatment so I can improve the quality of life for the fish under my care. I do have fish at home. I have a red/blue veiltail betta named Noah. He's in a 2.5 gallon. I also have a 10 gallon tank that used to only house a single comet goldfish but now thanks to my mother in law, also houses 4 red wag platies. Can you say "overstocked"? The comet's name is Scroob and he is about 2 inches long. I've had him for about 2 months now and he's growing like a weed. As soon as I make some room in my reptile room, I'm going to move him to a 15g tub pond with a filter rated for a 30 gallon. As for the 4 red wags, I have no idea what to really do with them. My mother in law surprised me with them. Oh, and I do understand that the comet will need a much bigger environment. This is only temporary and the 15 gallon will not be his only home. Eventually he will go into a pond once my husband and I have our own house. When he reaches 4-5 inches I'm getting him a 30 gallon tub pond to go in. Feel free to school me in goldfish keeping. Another hobby I'm really into is reptiles. I currently keep and breed ball pythons (color/pattern mutations) and corn snakes (color/pattern mutations). I also keep a columbian red tail boa, and a leopard gecko. I plan on branching out and breeding several different species of reptile including: Ball pythons, Corn Snakes, King Snakes, Rat Snakes, Kenyan Sand Boas, Columbian Red Tail boas, Green Tree Pythons, Leopard Geckos, Crested Geckos, Bearded Dragons, and a few others. Where do I hope to go with the fish hobby? My dream job is to open my own pet/fish store and breed my own reptiles and fish (fresh and saltwater). I want to work with many species and I'm not really sure what species I'm going to try keeping/breeding first. I suppose that is why I'm here. To figure that out and learn as much as I can about keeping and breeding fish correctly. |

| Hey welcome to the Box . we are having a meeting in Richmond today starting at 2 PM. It's our 1st meeting in Va so it's a meet and greet with all kinds of freebies. Stop on by address and # under Va Chapter thread.
You do know that comets will get huge and need a pond not a tank. He will outgrow 30 gals in 4 months if not sooner. Only one fantail goldfish per 10 gal. Which petsmart do you work in? |

| I work at the South Laburnam store. And yes, I am aware he will require a pond. I've had him for 2 months and he has grown from a tiny 1 inch comet to a 2 incher, probably just a bit more than 2. From what I've read, comets get to be about 12 inches, and sometimes that length does not include their tail.
I plan on putting him in a pond as soon as I can, but my husband and I need to get into our own house first. What size pond would you recommend for a few comets? |
