hello! There are quite a few reefers in the Hampton Roads area. There is actually a local group but the one person I know in there has kinda drifted away from them, he didn't like the politics and it is kind of click-ish. I sometimes feel like it's a boys only club lol. I went to one of the meetings and I was one of 6 women, most of them were wives, not members too. So glad to be in a larger group now!

Gotta love that! I'm hoping to learn from some of the DIY folks here. It just makes more sense to me to build exactly what you want for a fraction of the price for something generic... But I'm not exactly engineering inclined lol. Handy around the house, thanks to having a handy man for a father but that's about it lol.

Will do! Just getting everything set back up now so as soon as all is stable will move on to first project, My first sump/refugium!

We have many DIY projects here that we have posted. If you have any please post them as well. Are there any good fish clubs in VA?

I'm in Virginia Beach. Nice to meet you. :) I've been looking for a good local club here. Haven't found any. I've heard of some a bit further out but my truck is kind of horrible on gas to be going very far.

We are nation wide and growing REALLY fast. Soon we will have club meetings and what not in other cities. Until then stick around! Please browse about, post some pics, share some info. and ask all the questions you like.

The only club I know of and it's been great for getting started is the Hampton roads reef club. www.hrrc.com.

Mostly local guys, who have been very helpful but still feels kinda clickesh to someone whose new probably.

There are a ton of DIY sumps, and it doesn't seem to be all that difficult hence it being my first project. Someday I want to make my own top off system and also an high output led light fixture, but I'm starting basic first lol.

with sumps IME it's best to get the best pump you can find. Spend your money on this part of the sump.

Yes setting up a reef tank does take money.

Exactly! And the 4 kids and 13 furkids have taken it all! Lol

I got everything second hand from people who were upgrading their tank size or off of craigslist. For my set up I think the most expensive thing I have is my lights. Which is normally where the money goes to anyway. But comparatively, I didn't spend that much at all.
