How to tell if your female Betta is ready

Some of you are interested in trying to breed Bettas so I though I would give you some tips. This picture is of a female that is ready for breeding. She should be placed in a container next to the males so they can see each other. When the female is ready to breed she will get these vertical stripes. She must have them. If she doesn't then she is not ready. Putting her in with the male if she isn't ready could be dangerous to her. He will kill her trying to breed with her. To get both ready for breeding they have to be well conditioned first. Feeding them BBS and frozen bloodworms for at least two weeks ahead.

Here is another way to let them see each other and is the method that I use. Put her in a small container inside his tank. After a few days like this he should start to build his bubble nest and she should get her vertical stripes.

You will want to cover her jar with something so she doesn't just out. I use plastic canvas cut to size. Also continue to feed the bloodworms to each two to three times a day. To remove any uneaten food I use a plastic turkey baster. The worms will help her to develope eggs. Put a styrfoam cup cut lenght wise in the tank with the male for him to build his nest under here I have used a 4" bottom of a styrofaom plate. Cover the tank with glass when he starts blowing his nest and shut the filter off. This will stop the air and water movenemt from braking up his nest.

yep will do 2 weeks to condition them which she will be in her vase, then put her vase in the 20 g where my male is. and do wat they need to do.

He has started building his bubble nest. I will let her out into his tank later today. Very carefully as not to disturbe his nest but he will rebuild under the styrofaom.

this picture shows the egg tube. This is a sign that she is maturing. Also when young it's a good way to tell the males from the females.
