| i recently decided to breed mollies again. i have done it before, and still have two virgin female gold dust mollies. i purchased a male silver molly to try and get some calico/tri colored mollies. i have had my new male for about a week and he is NOT interested in my females. AT ALL. he acts as if they do not even exist. the females adore him. they swim around him, follow him around the tank, and hover next to him when he stops swimming. i can only assume they are ready to mate! does anyone know if there is something i can do to start his engine, so to speak? or should i take him back or try to get a feistier male? thanks! | |

| He may be to young yet. You could try conditioning he good with frozen bloodworms for a few weeks. | |

| play "Will & Grace" or "Project Runway" or "Steel Magnolias" next to the fish tank and see if he'll watch? j/k
He's probably still too young.

| hahaha yeah i make fun of him too when i tell people about him. he's a very odd man!
actually he is really big, which leads me to believe he is an older fish. maybe instead of too young, he's too old?

| oh good point. I'm not too familiar with breeding live bearers, but could adding a robust male in the vicinity help? hmm that sounds a bit wrong...
Is it possible to have an adjoining tank with another male to get your male in a competitive mood over the females, thus getting him going?
I know this is done with some mammals to get them in a mating mood, so maybe it could work with fish?

| hahaha. i could put another one in the tank, but there is nowhere to put another tank right now. but if i put another male in the tank, i don't want the two of them to hound my girls to death, either. i wonder if a mirror would work, like it does with bettas? maybe i'll try that... | |
