I thinking of buying this 29 gallon biocube, it doesn't include the light so I'll have to buy that. I'm thinking of a pair of black occelaris down fish, and something else, some cleaning shrimp and wat not, and couple of anonome for the clowns to choose from. Wat do yawl think. Oh my biggest questions is how to do water changes maintenance and all the info I will need to care for the fishys.

Excellent questions! You can never ask too many, or research too much. ;) I'm just getting ready to get mine set up too...was hoping to get my live rock and sand this weekend, but that ended up not happening.

Good luck...I know the masters of all things marine will be along to help you soon.

use RO/DI water or Distilled if you can't make your own, you can also buy it from your LFS. get a good salt mix like Instant ocean or Reef crystals, then pick up a good Hydrometer or refractometer these are more accurate and more expensive, mix the salt and RO/DI water in a 5 gallon bucket using a power head making sure its dissolved" I mix mine a day ahead of time" then use your Hydrometer to test your salinity 1.024 is a good spot to shoot for always test the Hydrometer with plain RO/DI water 1st to make sure its calibrated to 0. I dont use a heater to heat the water this time of year but I do in the winter. your goal is to match the salinity and temp of the water thats in the tank. on a 29 gallon BC you will do 3 gallon water changes so syphon 3 gallons out and put the new 3 gallons back you will want to do water changes weekly. I dont think a Bio Cube 29 has a skimmer or filters on it unless the previous owner modified it. you will need very strong lighting to keep anemone and with strong lighting comes heat . does the tank have a lid? post pictures when you can. the biggest issues with setups like this is they tend to over heat easily with the lid shut and having the lid shut also hinders gas exchange.

it doesnt have a lid and it has all the stuff in it, it has live rock and live sand including some fish as well. its established and thats they way i want to start out with. it just doesnt include the light as theperson is keeping it. where do i get a refractometer? i have a local water place that does salt water water lol. i def go over there to get this started and help me work things out. i want to know what is important to a saltwater tank. i looked up online and didnt get anything good so i got frustrated lol.

I have a used 29g Biocube with stand for sale. This includes tank, stand, skimmer, live sand, live rocks, fish, some corals, media basket, pump, powerhead, frag rack, but NO light or hood.

Tank is used and does not leak, currently running right now. There are a few scratches but only noticeable up close.

Stand is an Ikea stand, goes great with the tank. Does have water damage in the back.

Skimmer is an AquaticLife internal mini skimmer 115, about 5 months old and does a great job at skimming.

Also comes with an older model of the intank media basket and fuge basket. I will also include 2x 100ml purigen and a week old Chemi-pure Elite in there.

The return pump is a Maxijet 1200 and also comes with a Koralia 1 for circulation.

About 20lbs of live sand and 5lbs of live rocks.

Also comes with a yellow tail damsel, orange spot goby, and whatever snails (nerites, turbo, margarita, astrea, nassarius, cerinth) and crabs (emerald, sally light foot, red legged hermit, blue legged hermit) that are still in there.

Various corals include xenias, texas trash palys, and button polyps.

First chamber in the back I made into a fuge area with rubble rocks and 5 mangrove plants. There's also a clip on lamp to light up the mangroves that I will include with the tank.

Does not come with a light or hood. Please provide your own as I am keeping the current one on there.

Asking $180 for everything. Located in east Dallas.

" i want to know what is important to a saltwater tank. i looked up online and didnt get anything good so i got frustrated lol."

thats a loaded question, depending on what type of saltwater tank you are talking about makes a big difference Reef or FOWLR? as far as importance in either type would be water qualilty, lighting, filtration,Biological filtration ie"LR and Sand" flow and Stability especially in a reef in a FOWLR tank you can get away with less than perfect parameters where as a reef it gets more involved. when keeping corals there is also a difference of whats important for example:
easy corals to keep. average light requirements.
Zoa's
Leathers
mushrooms
and all softies are easy to keep and don't require perfect water quality some even thrive on some nitrate like xenia for instance.
then the next easiest: LPS "large polyp stony"
Frog Spawn
Duncan
Lobophylia
Torch coral etc..
these corals like more stable parameters and do fine under the average light setup.
then the most difficult corals are SPS "small polyp stony"
example:
Acropora
montepora
pocillapora etc..
are for more experienced reefers with excellent lighting and stable parameters and indirect high flow, keeping the PH,MAG,CAL and ALK stable is very important.
see what I mean by a loaded question? there are many factors to keeping saltwater tanks that one needs to keep in mind while deciding on what they plan to stock the tank with, a FOWLR "fish only with live rock" doesn't need any special lighting and low to moderate flow is fine but keeping Anemone is a bit different they need good flow and high light without the light they won't survive long, yes they eat but they get most of what they need with proper lighting.
people that are new to saltwater often forget to check species to see whats compatible with each other or if the animal they are planning to get is reef safe.
these fish come from all over the world and many in our tanks don't cohabitate in nature and each fish you add to your tank wants to be the only fish in your tank so its good to do a little research before you buy. these are just some of the basics.

I would do a pair of percula, and some kenya, xenia, polpys, and zoas. the inportant thing is to keep balance in the tank, good circulation, filtration, and lighting..

Ya I've been reading about the compatible fish, that's why I'm sticking with a pair of clowns and maybe a blenny and some shrimp. I want to do at leat 2 anonomes and good lighting. But idk if that reef or fowler. So I would like to know how to take care of the anonome and how the tank stability should be. I've been studying both and have not gotten much out of it so I'm asking experience people that know wat to do.

Hows the tank setup? Do I need something else besides the light, it has pics but I can't put the website on here so I have to give u the typing info. I want to make sure that this setup with work with a pair of clowns and anonomes.( if anything I can do just the pair of clowns and an anonome.)

My LFS told me that they did not recommend putting an anemone into a 29 gallon when I still had mine running. So I don't think that you could put two in there.

If you are buying the tank as it is described it is already a reef setup. One coral = REEF. Also what are you going to do with the fish that already inhabit this setup?

Trade them in for the clowns fish, okay so it's a reef tank and I guess just one enonome, and the pair. This is just for a first time tank not wanting to do to much and if I like it I'll upgrade.

my nem tank is only 40 gallons and I've kept 4 nems sucessfully long term so I dont know why a LFS would tell you that other than the smaller the water volume is the harder it is to keep stable and possibly newer hobbiist may find that difficult to maintain. you can keep a nem and have a pair of clowns in the 29 if you get a good metal halide or a decent T5 light. you will probably want another power head and you should definatley wait a couple of months atleast before adding the nem, let your tank settle and stabilize then test and make sure you have 0 ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. if you are taking the existing tank water thats good but you will still have a small cycle just from moving it thats why its a good idea to let it settle awhile. also the easiest nems to keep are bubbletip anemone they come in rose colors and greens the greens do not require as high intensity light as the Rose. if you are not wanting to do too much $$ this being your first attempt with saltwater then I would suggest going with a green Nem the Rose BTA's are expensive a nice healthy RBTA can run any where from 75 up tp 150.00 bucks where the greens go for 30 -35.00 Good Luck.........

thats excellent learn and read all you can and ask lots of questions. maybe focus on keeping easier animals and see how you like it first then as you get more comfortable and some knowledge and experience under your belt then get a nem lol they are not considered beginner:) $$$ also keep in mind most tank raised clowns won't host anemone.

I am not sure why they would have told me not to put one in my 29. :( At the time I thought that they said it would outgrow the tank. Maybe they were just trying to find a way to tell me that I wasn't ready.
