Assassin snails take a while to get started . . . but what I've noticed in the year or so that i've had them is that they breed quicker when there is a large supply of snails for them to consume. I now ship them across the US. I have them in four of my tanks and have played several experiments on them in which I was able to dedude the following results:
- Anetoma helena prefer a temperature in themid to upper 70's for breeding although they can handle a wide variety of temperatures - An abundance of MTS or ramshorn snails helps with breeding - If snails are not available, feed something high in protein - like shrimp pellets - If there is a lack of food, breeding stops. Great info! I will need this for my assasin. Keep me posted on more info

Just because different creatures live in the same environment doesn't mean that there exists some sort of symbiotic or mutualistic relationship between them. Is there some sort of information that leads you to this assumption . . .or is this just a guess based upon that fact that Sulawesi shrimp and Sulawesi snails come from the same general location? The water parameters measured using API test kit near a region where the Tylo. snails are collected are as follows: pH 8 GH 60 ppm KH 80 ppm TDS 90-135 ppm

| Brichardi fry are the ones in question mainly. I have seen the adult brichardi pick up and move MTS from their breeding pits......... Pretty much cichlid fry in general I guess, and also do they harm plants? |

I said nothing about a symbiotic or mutualistic relationship, where did you read that? I simply stated that being from the same area , they like the same water parameters ,so that could be why those snails in that tank are reproducing while your others arent .

I have Red Eruopean Ramshorn Giant Ramshorn Nerite Assasian MTS Trapdoor and some kind of pond snail that I can't ID. I think I got him from Terry.

Perhaps you are missing my point... I'm not trying to be rude or anything. But saying that a sulawesi snail is not breeding because I don't have sulawesi shrimp breeding in the same tank is tantamount to saying that I can't breed discus because I don't have green terrors in the same tank (they come from the same water too). What I was asking was if they have some sort of relationship that I was not aware of... such as a symbiotic, mutualistic, etc. All of my tanks have the same parameters. Housotn tap water with a carbon bottle. Now let me ask you this: Do you even have any first hand experience with these snails?

| "They are at a higher temperature (80F) and the water has a higher oxygen content. Does anyone know if this could be whay they are breeding?"
Temperature is a water parameter also and so is oxygen levels.
Yes I have White spotted tylos, not many but they do have a few young and their temp is 82, ph 7.8, dkh 6. I keep them with some Malawas since they like the same water parameters ,could be why they are both reproducing.
You keep acting like I said the shrimp had to be there, never said anything of the sort ,I dont need anyone putting words in my mouth,I am quiet capable of putting my foot there on my own.

True; I meant to say water chemistry pamameters (i.e. those generally measured with an API test kit) - svaha wrote:

I understand why you keep them together. It is the same reason that I keep mine together. It is also the same reason that I keep my cyps and xenos together. But I don't understand why you think that is impacts the reproduction rate. That is why I was asking about some sort of relationship that I was not aware of. - svaha wrote:

Having one thing imply the other is what led me to believe that you think there is some sort of relationship between the two. Did I misread/misinterpret this? This is what led me to start talking about symbiosis, mutualism, etc. . . - svaha wrote:

I'm not acting like the shrimp had to be there; I'm acting acting as if you think there is a benefit to them being there. I'm not trying to put words anywhere . . . simply trying to understand what you meant by a statement that you made.

I'll ask Nancy, probably purple mystery...I'm pretty sure you know Nancy, aka Haiven. on the dfw forum as I understand that you purchased many of her cichlids when she changed over to angels....she's in Northwest Irving....not on the USA site...she only does angels now and they're beautiful

Havien rings a bell. I think I only got 1 or 2 of the Cichlids. She had some nice Angels for sure.

This is where I am confused . . . but I'll leave it alone since it has nothing to do with KMX's desire to find different types of snails.

| Pilli, you most likely have the standard pond snails. I know with my brown ramshorns a few red pop up from time to time. |
