| I have 5 Koi Angels in a 75g community tank. Just walking past and noticed eggs on the filter even though there is a nice sized slate at the other end of the tank LOL. Don't have any idea how long they have been there. Anyway the place that they are at I can't remove the hose to put them and the parents in another tank. They are fervently guarding the eggs. I will have to leave them there. When and if they hatch will the other fish then eat them? After this is over I will put the parents into a tank of there own and try for another batch. | |

| First off, I would be estatic over those beautiful koi spawning! From what I understand the first 3/ish times the parents might eat the fry. Eventually they learn to parent raise. I've only had free swimming fry once and they were in their own tank but I would think the other fish would try to eat the fry. I wish you the best of luck! | |

| Thanks Shea. I do have another tank I could put them in but they have laid the eggs on a tube that does not come off so they will have to stay there. I understand that Angels lay eggs about every few weeks so this pair will go into the other tank to spawn some more later. I am so excited though because the one parent is the only Veiltail of the 5 and I was really hoping that it would pair up and it did. Not seeing them spawn I don't know which is the male and which is the female. | |

| Congratulations!
Looks like a nice little spawn. Some parents take longer then others to figure this whole parenting thing out and other just never do. Just watch them over the next few days. I would highly recommend leaving the lights on (at least one small one) during this time. The have a bad habit of getting spooked and eating their eggs at night.
Good luck and keep us updated!

| Oh dang Striking. I wish I had known more about them. I shut the light off so it would be more pieceful for them and when I just went to turn it on to show my son they are all gone. They ate them in like about a half hours time. I'm going to set up another tank and put the pair in it for the next time. | |

| Yeah that is pretty common. I don't know why but I have had the same thing happen to me. With the light on the just protect the eggs and normally won't eat them even if startled.
Also given it is their first time it is really not uncommon for them to eat them right away. In fact it may take the male a few times to even know what to do.
Don't give up a good breeding pair should lay eggs every 7-14 days. My female will lay over 200 eggs every 10. Pretty amazing for such a small fish.

| Ok. I'm going to get the other tank set up for just the two of them. Will they acclimate to it Ok or will it take months for them to get going again if they are moved? | |

| Here is what I do and I can't say it will work for everyone but...
Wait until she is ready to pop. (7-14 days from now) and put them in the new tank. It will take another few days but since she is so far along she will lay them anyways. The guy will just do his thing most likely. Then since they have laid their eggs once in the new setting already the next time around they will be fine.
That is how I do it but yeah ahha.

| Ok thanks. I have to patch a small leak in the tank but it will be ready in two weeks. | |
