went to the lfs yesterday and found 14 cichlids in a 20 gallon tank. these fish range in size from two inch to over five inches. most are in the larger size. i know some are yellow lab, a hap of some kind i think. anyway, i bought all of these fish and put them in my 210 gallon tank. my tank has been running for about two months. i dont know if they are going to make it, but i know they would not at the lfs. anything i can do to help them along.

Looks like you got a frontosa, male venustus, some yellow labs, red zebra, jewelfish, acei, and what looks like either a cobalt and/or red top zebra. Depending on what you paid, the front might have been a good purchase.

I take it the venustus is that marbled-looking guy towards the bottom? Yeah, I'm still learning cichlids. He's wicked looking! I need to do some research...

i am worried about a huge ammonia spike since all these fish were added at the same time. my nitrates are up some now. by the way, the lfs wanted twelve dollars each for the fish. i asked how much if i take them all, and the woman said "how about 40 dollars". needless to say, i took them home.

Most stores would probably sell the frontosa for that price by itself.

Yes. You can feed them frozen bloodworms and frozen veggies to fatten them up and help them get healthy from the nightmare you saved them from. They don't know how lucky they are!
