CAST your net out and open a space for a rare species!!

The CAST program was invinted by me on 4-2-11. I was thinking about getting a program started for some time. At first I did not know where to really go with the program but I really wanted to make sure the goal was all about conservation and helping these rare species of fish that are in the hobby. I have read in to other programs like C.A.R.E.S. and also one that HCCC started to keep these rare species of fish going strong. I have made a bunch of my own ideas with a little mixing of others and I think I have created another monster!!

The only requirements to get involved in this program is be a member of USA Fishbox, have space for a rare species and sign a letter of aggrement on the rules and requiremnts in the program.

Rules and requrements are simple.

-You must agree that NONE of the fry will ever be sold unless it's a donation going back in to the program.

-You must agree that NONE of the parents/breeders will ever be sold.

-Everything will be documented on USA Fishbox, so you must have a way of taking pictures and must give feedback weekly to bi weekly updates on everything.

-You must agree that these fish are actually NOT YOURS. They are owned by the CAST program. YOU are only caring for them.

-If you fail to meet the requirements at anytime you will be removed from the program and fish will go to someone else. IF YOU SELL FISH behind the programs back you will be banned, removed and forever knows as a fraud! Very sincear about what the program is about.

I am looking to get people involed. I would like to see this expand in the North Texas and surrounding areas. But this does not exculde anyone who lives elsewhere.

This cost nothing but a helping hand and a small donation. ( $1-$2 per fish. Fish will be ready at 1" or larger.) You will be aloud a min. of 6 fish and a max. of 20 of one species. You can have as many species as you want.

If you have a tank 20G or bigger let me know and I will get with you to discuss details on what species we can put in your tank.

If you don't have a tank or $$ to get one. I can get one for you just lend me the space. Please get with me if you have space for a tank and are willing to help the CAST program. (once the program gets bigger we will be able to help with some finances)

The fish that are choosen to put in your tank will be tracked by all of us here at USA Fishbox. I want to keep track of who has the fish, how many, if they are spawning and where the fry go. ALLLLL fry that are breed will be donated to other tanks for CAST. None will be sold unless it is for donations.

I think it would be awesome to have many species and grow the #s in the thousands and keep track of everything!

Hey - is there an "entire list" of species that are C.A.S.T. eligible species - did I miss it somewhere? Just wondering or are we going off the list of species of C.A.R.E.S. if I missed it just let me know LOL I'm getting older and have brainfarts

If this ever comes to VA count me in! I can clear room for up to a 75 gallon tank and could probably work in a 30/40 breeders and a 20L/29 as well. I'd need to borrow one though unless I manage to strike it lucky and pick up a freebe somewhere but I've been searching for months with no luck. If I come across anything sooner I'll let you know. Stoked to see this program! I hadn't clicked this post before for some reason. Leave it to me.

CAST & CARES have nothing to do with each other. There is no list for CAST. If you have a fish that you think might be rare or endangerd then I will consider it. I am pretty sure anything that is on the red list or the CARES list. anything like that will be a high priority to get in our program. So if you got something please let me know

I will keep you in mind and in line for the program.

I'll be interested once I move in August and perhaps have some space for a tank. I've never kept cichlids of any kind though, so not sure what help I'd be.

Every user that get's involved with the program some way or another will get a cool little CAST sig.

One question . Who pays for shipping? I would like to get involved in this. Way to go KMX ! I love programs that befits the better of anything.

Thanks for your interest. At this time we are just getting this rolling so the start of this program will be a little slow but once we get good #s, I will be overwhelmed!

I was thinking people that had to have stuff shipped to them could split the shipping 3 ways, CAST program, user and I pay a 3 way split. If we do that it will be like $7 a person. EASY MONEY!

Is there a paypal account for this ? I would like to donate some cash if there is , I would also join in but I would like to pay 100% of the shipping would not really feel too great if I didn't please let me know what I can do : )

No, But it would help the program. It is very easy to ship.

I going to the UK next week, so let some of the others have those you would have sent me, but I'm keeping the tank empty for CAST and will be eager for some of the next batch.

I'm going home to see parents etc, and hope also to go and visit my uncle that lives in France. As for pics..nah, I found a HD JVC Video Cam at work today for $45, was clearance price, but alas no one had marked it's new price!! What a shame.
This means I can try and do tank vids, and also intend to try out a video blog of my trip.
BTW I have 2 x 30G tanks, so I will be more than ready. Also I'm not sure but rather than ship, I may take a day trip to meet you, if that's OK with you?
After all about 200 miles @ 30 miles per gallon = $21.

Sat I take a minimum of 6 fish @ $1 per fish, plus gas = $27, to me, it's still a good deal.

Fish cost $6, Gas cost's $21. Meet and pick the brain of a cichlid breeder ... invaluable.

You come see me and get a bunch of fish.
