| Take this with a grain of salt since Im a newbie but I'd think that if you keep water parameters up and nutrients in the water that it should grow well. | |

| your tank needs sufficient Calcium for Coralline algae to grow 390-450 ppm you should test your tank and see where the levels are you can also get Live Rock that already has coralline growing on it to help it get started in your tank or scrap some coralline off of an established tank and add it to yours but again it needs calcium to grow. you can also get a product called Purple up that will help raise your cal levels. personally I wouldn't add anything until I tested 1st. Salifert tests are very accurate and easy to use. as far as how long it takes. I start seeing coralline in my tanks within 6-8 weeks of being setup. Brightwell Aquatics makes a very good Cal supplement you can use after you know where your params are at. http://www.aquacave.com/brightwell-aquatics-calcion-br-liquid-calcium-supplement-br-for-reef-aquaria-2438.html

| here's a pretty good calculator you put in your tank gallons for instance I have a 180 gallon tank with a 75 gallon fuge/sump but I dont combine the 180 and 75 because you need to take in account the water displacement from the Live rock and sand so I start mine with a total water volume of 160 gallons and go up from there as needed. then you test for instance lets say my tank tests 325 for calcium and I want to get it to 425 enter those numbers and hit calculate it will tell you how much cal you need to use to get the levels where you want them try not too raise any levels too fast do it slowly over a week or two. http://reef.diesyst.com/chemcalc/chemcalc.html | |
