| What do the other cichlids look like in the tank? Could they be dying of disease then eaten by the others like the shark, pleco, cats, etc....? |

| I would lean towards the idea of them dying then being eaten by something else in the tank.
Which tank is it that is under your avatar with the problem? I am assuming the 40g since that is the one with cichlids listed.

| I probably wouldn't put it past the shark or plecos to be eating the dead fish then. | |

| The rainbow could actually be harrassing them to stress death. The cories and Kulos are opportunistic omnivores - so they'll enjoy the 'easy' source of fish protien. | |

| Hybrids..... That might explain it. They are not rite in the head. You never know what you are going to get when it comes to hybrids. They should all be put in the crazy house until there time is done. | |

I would seperate. I would say monitor the situation so you can find out what is actually happening. I would keep the hybrids seperate from eveything and don't breed those. Keep them for YOUR personal use only and do not release them in any water ways. If you are looking to breed the convicts...they don't need much space. 20G or bigger should do it. I had a pair going on a 15G for a while until I sold them a few years ago. | |

| Sounds like you have a major issue with the entire tank. The fish are probably dying, and being eaten on after death.
I would move all the healthy fish to a quarrantine tank, and do a major water change.
Quit with the co2 and any fertilizer you are using for the plants. Keep the lights on for a minimum of 12 hours a day. Make sure you are using sufficient lighting for a planted tank of the depth you have.
Are the plants dying from the top or the bottom? If from the bottom, you need more light.
What is the clarity of your water? Have you tested the gasses (nitrite, nitrate, ammonia) yet? If not, you need to do so as soon as you can. If any of these are high, you will need to do daily water changes of 50% or more until you can bring it under control. You will also need to test for specific gravity, hardness, ph, etc... Broad spectrum testing will be necessary.
At any rate, a water change of 50% or more is going to be needed as soon as possible. Make sure you are cleaning your substrate when you do this. If you are losing snails and/or other iverts, much of their waste/remains will be in the upper portion of the substrate.
Since you are treating the tank, make sure you have any and all carbon type cartridges removed from your filtration system. The carbon will neutralize any medicines being used.
Depending upon the issue, you may have to rinse out your filter media. This is why it will be important that you only vacuum the top of the substrate. You don't want to remove all your bacteria, but you do want to remove as much waste and detritus as you can.
Good luck!

| You need to check the parameters of your water. I'd rule out co2 because DIY is not putting out enough to harm your fish. Besides, ALL the fish would be gasping for air and dying, not just 1 or 2. | |
