Cascade filters and UV sterilizers Empty
PostSubject: Cascade filters and UV sterilizers   Cascade filters and UV sterilizers Icon_minitime9/6/2010, 7:17 am

I'm now an in-tank Cascade fan. Switched all my tanks over to them and have had much better results than with on-the-back filters.

I purchased a complete 9V UV sterilizer w/internal pump unit to try out on my native tank. Was having green water issues, but since there's crayfish - chemical control is NOT an option.

Must say, I'm very impressed with the UV system. Green water disappeared completely within 48 hours and the tank is beautiful! So now I'm looking to put this on every tank. Problem is that these complete systems are quite pricey. I've seen several 9V UV sterilizers without pumps at low prices. According to the pond dealer, you normally hook up a sump pump to them in order to route the water through.

After thinking on it, I realized I already have good 'pumps' to push water through them. I envision just sticking the UV sterilizer inside the tanks right above water line (I keep the water about 2-4" down in the 55's) Then simply connect them to the outflow from the Cascade - instead of the Cascade pushing water through it's 12+" sprayer tube. How can I hook up the Cascade 600's flow through them? What fittings do I need? lol!

Hook one of these submersable power filters.... (comes with a round-top fitting as well as the pictured half-moon fitting on the top)

To one of these 9V UV sterilizers in order to permanently control green water algae.
