howdy well u all know a few ppl r going to get discus. i was one of them and now i hav one little red turq. then i started to think bout how do u tell if one is a female then the other.

so im asking the knowlable discus keepers if u know how to tell. i want to see if i get one pair or 2 , with my snakeskins and some blue turq. pics would be awesome too!!! to see one male and the other female

I think the best way is to wait till they pair off. Not any real distinguishing features just to tell male from female. You could try and vent them.

Ya usually requires taking them out of the water and getting a good clear pic of it and posting it.......

Letting them pair off is the best way. Its easy to recognize a pair once then bond.

okay will do that let him be i dont want to stress the little guy hes my favorite!!! he just watches me do my water changes and do this and that. then hes starting to let me pet him so im very plzed with him/her

the blue snakeskin in the middle see the extention on the finthe female usally wont have it

ah okay thanks so much, very gorgeous fish wen do u think he will get those extentions, well the rounded age to it, hes still a baby ill try to get a pic of him bit he always shows his face and not his body.

you dont have to wait till he gets them compleatley when they begin to mature the female top fin will stay round the male will start to come to a point you have to look real close but you will see it there is no set age some discus grow faster than others just look for a pont

okay kool mine hasnt gotten any extentions or not but i really dont know his age either. he might be 2 inches to 2.5. i cant really tell tho not very good at the size. if thats a good length then its a girl lol. but ill wait to make sur tho.

when they start spawning you can see the difference ,when you staring at there junk long enough, lets hope you dont get 2 females. it happens.

lol ya thats def tru i got one and wat u guys told me bout their fins i hav a girl, which is fine bc i did name her tigger lol.
