I finally broke down and bought a Fluval FX5. I've been tired of dealing with cheap filters.

Congrats! Just be careful with sand bottom tanks. The sand can easily foul up the motor. So always check the motor and motor housing when doing a cleaning and filter change. Make sure you still have enough filtration depending on the tank size and the amount of fish stock. If its a heavily loaded tank ya might need extra filtration for your bio load. Of course that depends also on the size of the tank.

I got mine at $325.99 and its was worth every penny. I have sand in the tank with the fx5 and do notice some in the canister when I clean it. I ended up coverting the return to a spray bar! I had it run the full 72" of the 125 with no problems.

I have a 125 gallon and I use an FX-5 and 2 AquaClear 110's. More than enough I know but my tank is always crystal clear and I can do a complete "cleaning" on a filter and not mess up my bio. The biggest thing with the FX5 is only adding 2 gallons of water to the canister before starting it up! IF you do more you don't get the proper syphon process and lose a lot of flow....

I have a magnum 350 as second filtration running right now. Can't have enough! I had a Fluval 405 but I sold it last night to help pay for the FX5. I'm excited to get it and set it up. Should be here Friday

I don't know if it was just mine, I got mine used so I'm not sure how old it was, but it seemed to get clogged very fast. I'd clean it out and it would pump fine, then after about a week or 2 it would barely be flowing. I wanted to get something with a higher flow rate.

I thought the fx-5 has one of the best flow rates. ask around about the clogging problems and see what others tell ya to fix it. it might be something very simple.
