| Wouldn't call $3.99-4.99 cheap - but compared to some they are. I like them. They get along with my bettas, don't pick on my shrimp, and don't need bigger tanks like the normals or sailfins. They also blend in well in my daughter's 29T planted guppy-breeding tank.
Just don't keep more than one male in a tank. That will keep the aggression down. They also like being in groups of 3+ females to each male (or just 3+ females).
They make as much of a mess as the same size goldfish, but unlike goldfish you can keep them in heavily planted tanks. The plants will be more than happy to use up the excess nitrates!
They are prone to ich, so make sure to quaranteen. Also add a dash of salt. The short-finned ones seem much healthier than the lyre-tailed ones. | |
