How do ya'll... So I've been wondering...
I'm always moving, except now I have fish....
I figure they (loaches) made it all the way here,
as "infants", so any state I choose in the US
shouldn't be a problem, and they're definatly
in better condition than when I got them so they
should be able to handle a few 'knocks'... I figure a
bucket of good water.. 'temp control' in the car and
some battery powered air supply and they should be
good to go anywhere right?.... keep the filters 'alive etc..

Anyone move fish 'long distance' and have some experience???

How big are the loaches? They do get sharp barbs on their noses that could poke holes in bags, However , I think they would be better off double or triple bagged, with 1/3 water and 2/3 air in bags, and then in an insulated cooler. In a bucket, the water will get sloshed around quite a bit, even if you drive carefully. and controlling the temp would be hard. In bags, they would be ok for a couple days, after all , that is how they are shipped world wide.

hey whats goin on ... the loaches are 4in average, and fat..
I figured if the "ambient" temp in the car is good and warm
it should hold for a 'nights length' of time, and in a 'homer bucket'
if you fill it to the top, it won't "slosh" but it will throw its momentum,
so I was thinking fill it to the top, drill a hole in the middle of the lid, insert
air line, and run it on a battery pump...

You mentioned bags.. they could 'wart hog' it like you said with
their barbs, so maybe a "bag in a bucket"?... O2 would be a problem....

Does anyone know how fish are shipped "internationally"?...
I'm thinking 24 hours and it's got to be in a "cycled" spot...

Seriously tho, how do little baby fish get from where they're "born"
to us?... I need someone "in the biz" to speak up... :) peace-JT
