I just got a new place last week. YAY!! I am wanting to move my fish down there with me. Its about a 30 minute trip. I dont have any bags but Im sure I can get some. Im planning on getting a tank set up there with some aged water to make it a little less stressful. Any other ideas or advice? Im moving tiger barbs, Black skirts, neons, white clouds and my feisty krib.

i moved all my stuff about 50 miles. before i tore the tank down, i did a 1/3 water change, and waited about an hour. got the biggest cooler i was ok with from walmart (13gallons) ipour someboiling water in the cooler and swished it all the around to sterilize the inside and to also prime the cooler to keep a warmer more consistent temp inside by warming the walls of the cooler. if you dont do this then the cooler will suck up all the heat from the old tank water when you put it in.pour out all hot water of course

then i filled the cooler up half way with my tank water, and caught my fish and put em in there. then tore the tank down. easy, no spillage during transport

I have done the same. Congrats on the new place! How big is your tank? I usually try to save a lot of the tank water in 5G Homer buckets w/ lids, and you can even seperate fish into said buckets... Biggest question I think is how big is the tank to be transported? If it's a 30G or smaller I wouldn't worry about getting a second tank, although, I always find a use for an extra one here and there... In a cooler or in the 5G buckets your fish will be happier and will live much longer than in bags. They should be fine for hours, given their temperature doesn't fluctuate too much...

buckets are always good, but i like to use something with insulation to transport the fish in. use the buckets for old tank water tho

I just recently moved all 7 of my tanks and I agree buckets work well it's not so much the water as it is the decor rocks, filter media, but I like to keep as much of the water as possible. And good strong people as once you get up to 55 gallon tanks loaded with holey rock tends to get heavy good luck with your move you should be fine.

Buckets and coolers work fine . I bought and moved a 75 gallon Salt Water tank 35 miles a couple years ago. Complete with fish , inverts , live rock and live sand . All went well. And My Wife likes to rearrange some of our tanks once in a while . Buckets and ice chest again . But after moving the 150 gallon once ( 3 men to move ) I told her THAT one stays put !!! lol!
