| Hey question, is that stuff purely for a sump or refugium or can it be put directly in the tank? can fish eat it? I know what it is and all that but never messed with it..

nope the fish wont eat it and yes you can put it anywhere there's light. its great for nutrient export. I plan to ship quart freezer bags full:) I started with a softball size clump and now its a beach ball so I need to share some with others.

| heres some pictures its in my 75 G sump/fuge and its growing out of the water. some other benefits are it will help establish your biological filter and cycle in new tank. FYI I used to use a 48 inch pc fixture over my sump I switched to a home depot clip on shop light and bought Par 38 bulbs and since then chaeto go's like crazy. I would be willing to bet in a pinch you could use these cheap bulbs in the main display to grow coral:) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| Yes Meredith it would help with nutrient export.
If you don't have a sump/fuge I have seen it placed in a deli type container with holes around the sides & lid about pencil size placed in an inconspicuous place in the tank. I do know that emerald crabs will eat it. As I used to have some before I had emerald crabs LOL. No crabs now but no chaeto either. I should get some for my tank too.
Wonder how much postage that manilla envelope would need on it?

| I have a 29g long tank... would that be big enough to use as a sump/fuge for my 55g tank?? Right now it is temporarily housing my son's gecko until he can come get him, but as soon as the gecko is gone I will have full use of that tank again and can turn it into my sump/fuge if it's big enough. Once I have it set up, can I then transfer the chaeto from the main tank to it? | |

Once I have it set up, can I then transfer the chaeto from the main tank to it? cool a 29 would be great for a fuge/sump. if you do get the chaeto and put it in the DT in a container make sure it gets plenty of light like I mentioned above I have mine growing under a Par 38.

YAY! I'm glad to hear that it will work! I will make sure to have a good light on it once I transfer it to the fuge... The lighting in the main tank is really good (it's "reef" lighting for growing corals, etc), so I hope to have plenty of happy chaeto in there!

Ok will do!Thanks! no problem! I refuse to through it away I'd rather give it away lol I saw on ebay their selling it for 15 bucks a quart! thats crazy! I met the new MGR at one of my LFS and he needs help with the salty section so I agreed to help so I am giving him some as well trust me theres plenty to go around. meredith dont break the bank of a fuge light I got a clip on shop light from the LHS and a Sylvania par 38 bulb and it grows chaeto better than the fancy coral life I have under there and it cost less then 10 bucks:)
