Looks like a female to me too Len. The females get a lot of black in the dorsal fin and the dorsal is pointed, but quite a bit shorter than the males.

Awesome these guys are so hot right now everyone seems to want them I. The SA cichlid world. The females are just to die for the colors amazing. Well done good luck with the fry.
Gator that photo looks like a male to me. The females as you know of pair are bright red with not much matalic shine that the males get. This guys in the photo looks long and looks to have more of that matalic specks. Fins a re a bad way to sex fish. Body shape is a better way. The females are a bit more short and stocky. What do you think it is?

i was leaning to female with all the black in the dorsal fins... someone mentioned that he thought the spangled fin and tail fin will disapear when she starts getting in breeding colors.. But again, all my larger juvi look like this one. i will post pics of the others after i get these fronts out of the tank next week! Then we can do a good comparison. Thanks everyone for awesome comments and information!
