| I think there are DIY traps you can make, but I would just squish them when I see them... | |

| Snail traps...botias seem to work pretty good (some loaches as well) copper should kill them off also. | |

| If you only have a couple....just pluck them out when you can. Chances are you will nip it in the bud before it gets out of hand. | |

| Sounds like common pond snails . Some assassin snails would work . | |

| I know 2 ways. One, take an empty clean spice bottle, and just before you turn out the lights for the night, put a fish wafer in the bottom and fill it with tank water, and lay it on the bottom of the tank. First thing when you get up in the morning, pull the bottle, which will be full of eating snails, and empty all the snails out into the sink or trash. Keep this up for as long as it takes to decimate your snails. Smash any eggs you see attached to anything in the tank.
#2 take a piece of lettuce and put it on the bottom of the tank at night as in the above paragraph. You may have to put a rock on it to keep it on the bottom. Get up early and it too should be covered with snails to throw away.
It does take a little while to get them out, but you won't have to use chemicals this way.
Good luck! Pam :) | |

| I have a natural planted tank, and it's been 3 weeks since set up, I'm noticing some algae growth. There is no heater, so the usual FW tropical algae eating fish wouldn't do. I've thought of snails, but don't want to take over..... if only the beneficial plant friendly snails didn't reproduce asexually....sigh. | |

| You can go with nerite snails they do not reproduce in fresh water and eat algae just fine. Snails will eat other easier to obtain food (aka left over fish food) before munching on alage. If it is hair/ beard alagae you might need to get a specialist...Florida flag fish keeps my unheated 55 (temp 73 degs...room temp) almost completley free of hair algae. | |
