I am not sure what kind this is, the guy I got it from said it was a Red Empress. But the black stripe they typically have never looked (i got him around 1.5") as clean as other Red Empresses I have seen... He's about 2.75" now...
Any thoughts would be appreciated...
I am guessing it's a hybrid of some kind, maybe Ahli X Empress??

Maybe a Ahli Flametail hybrid?

This is a guessing game!find who bred it if you really want to know.It probably came from asia, theyre producing a lot of hap/peacock hybrids like this, but there are a lot of variantsI kinda like mine-he is stunning, but more aggressive

It's a shame they are doing that.
I agree with Jake. Find out where you got it.

Man I feel bad for that ahli since the red in the back and top fin is not there color almost looks like somethings taking over it.

looks more like a blue empress to me . ಠ_ಠ jk
jk the stripes are prolly more solid due to better "blood line" idk i never got into these guys...they all look the same to me.....

In pic 2 one of the stripes only goes halfway-a common occurence in hybribs.I'm not sayin you should, but if you were to breed a hybrid, this would be a bad choice, cuz of the stripe.None would come out straight. In a batch of hybrids you might get 1 or 2 that are a correct looking blend, with correct looking stripes. Due to the slightly more tubular shape-ahli for sure the anal fin does remind me of a red emp,but who can tell for sure. I know in asia they're using ahli and firefish, but what else?

Thanks everybody! Yeah, def won't be breeding this little guy... but hey he looks cool enough not to flush to me... I got him outta Houston from some dude, who was from Asia, so I am guessing Jake's right on the money there. I like that Red Cap btw, nice and bright!
You know while I hate seeing hybrids in the market, every once in a while it's interesting to see something new/different. As long as they are the end of the strain.
