I've read numerous times about feeding carrots and squash etc to fish. I did a search on here about feeding. Read every thread, every post and no one suggests how to prepare veggies for fish food!... Just throw a hunk in the tanks or shred it or cook it?.. what is the scoop?

I've read some threads that call for thin slices of blanched veggies like zucchini and squash. Then I got to thinking, fish naturally don't have blanched fruits and plant materials fall from trees in the wild. I tried an experiment with a frozen slice of squash. I figured the freezing of the water in the veggie cells would have ruptured the cells, breaking it down somewhat in that respect.

I grated it frozen, which made 1-2mm wide strips and little bits, and the fish went for it. In fact my cherry barbs pigged out, hoarding the strips and letting it hang out of their mouths while they worked on the part already in their mouth. I got worried! I'd do it it again, this time double grate it to break the strips into smaller pieces.

also, if you have excess NLS or other food lying around, they can be added also!
i put the mash of stuff in baggy, flatten it no more than 1/4in thick, freeze it.....
when you feed them just break off pieces and throw into tank! Stand back, because they normally go into a feeding freenzy if they really like the stuff! lol

New Life Spectrum fish food. Very good stuff. I have had excellent results using it and my fish love it.
