| I think my red jewels are starting to pair up. There is an awful lot of fighting in the tank. I had to move all of the smaller ones into a 20g long for the moment. I figured they were smaller and not ready to pair up yet so they got moved so they didn't get killed. I just watches a hell of a fight between the biggest ones a M and F (I think) Lip locking, chasing the whole 9 yards! I haven't seen any eggs as of yet. But I know they are close due to the rising aggression level. I think as they pair I will move them into their own 10g or 20g long split in half for 2 pairs.
I had read some where that the way to tell them apart is that the males have the jewels (blue sparkly things) on their tails and the females don't or if they do its just a few on the top.
Wish me luck and any advice would be appreciated!

| i wish you luck but i am not sure if that is a male and female lip locking. my males tend to do that but never my females. i heard somewhere that you can sex them by looking at the # of black dots. 2 is a male and 3 is a female but i may have that backwards. ask GRR he has a bunch of them. also you could always vent them. | |

| Well it looks like I may have one pair. It seems to be a dark male and a vibrantly red female... I think. But they are both defending a clay pot on one side of the tank. |

| Ok I tried to get a good measurement of them.... It wasn't easy they kept hiding when they saw the measuring tape. My best guess is they are between 3"ish and 1.5"ish. I still have them split up the bigger ones are still in the 55g and the smaller ones are in the 20g long. |

| Well they think they are large enough to lay eggs I guess I will move the non paired into the 20g with the rest then move the pair and eggs into a 10g and put the rest back into the 55g. But it will all have to wait until morning |

| Yup, I told yall they were acting extra spunky! I tried to get a pic of one of the parents with the eggs but they don't like the camera and run and hide every time I try. |

| Ok there is only one fish caring for the eggs. I cant tell who its mate is..... Can I just move the pot with the eggs on it or do the parents have to care for the young? |

| Well I've read that with jewels the parents will kill other fish when there are eggs involved. I will go ahead and move the eggs.... As soon as I get the urethane and wood glue off my hands |

| Ya it was good I just emptied this 10g out the other day! Oh, do they live off an egg sack for a while or do I need to start feeding them as soon as their hatched? Can I feed them powdered flake? |
