| a while ago I lost the majority of my stock to ick. The only survivors from my 35 gallon tank were two male guppies. Lost my old large gold fish, 2 bettas, and 5 black skirt tetras. Sadness! But I let the tank filter and tested the water and everything checks out! Im ready to start my living room piece back up. The two survivors are now in the 35 as seen below~ Well, you cant see the little guys, but they are there Now heres the story on the new arrivals. -2 "medium" (which seem very small to me for a medium) Angle fish One beautiful gold one with yellow stripes on the top fins & a pretty (what I believe is marble) black and white with spotted pelvic fins They are buddies already (lets hope they pair up!) -Two full grown female guppies, one pregnant & the other not (to my knowledge) & 3-4 baby guppies that the guy just threw in for free. (they have some nice cheetah print tails already!) They may have ickWhich is where the story gets irritating. Petco (where I got them) has a major issue with their stock. The majority either get anchor worms, or ick The tanks these guys came from had at least 2 others that had sign of early ick, The guy was a smooth talker and made a valid point that they wouldn't get the treatment they needed here, but at the same time dont show signs of having ick themselfs yet. If im not mistaken its VERY contagious, and they will most likely get it. But he offered half price on all the fish, and I could not resist. So heres what im doing,Im treating them in a 10 gallon tank with a 20-30 gal filter (all I have at the moment) with some tiny decor rocks at the bottom. These are the products im using the treat them, Aquarium salt (2 teaspoons) And Mardel coppersafe ick treatment ( 2 and a half teaspoons) -What are some tips for treatment? -How long do you guys suggest I keep them in treatment since they currently do not show any signs of ick? -Do you recommend I get a certain live/fake plant for the angles in the treatment tank? All tip/suggestions are loved! Ive also never owned angles, so any general tips for them is loved as well! Especially on recommended diets! The angles The guppies Thanks in advance for the replies | |

| can't believe they sell sick fish or fish that are in a tank with sick fish!
"ya we will sell you this fish for half price and save u $4... cause now you have to spend $50 on treatments!"
every time i go into a petco, they have several dead fish, don't bother to remove them when i mention it to the salesperson, and they don't seem to know squat.
hopefully you can find a GOOD LFS near you instead of buying any fish from petco.

| raise temp to around 84, add 1 tablespoon salt per 10 gallons. med wise I've had excellent luck with malachite green, treat for 5 days. Angels can be easy keepers, temp around 82, good quality flake with bloodworms and brine shrimp thrown in occasionally. | |

| The best treatment for ick is salt. In fact if you have a Saltwater tank You can do a quick 3 second dip in the saltwater tank, then back into it's onw tank and it will take care of it instantly. | |

hopefully you can find a GOOD LFS near you instead of buying any fish from petco. Unfortunately the only lfs are salt water! D: I wish we had more fresh water ones! TRUST ME!. I worked for the last fresh water family owned business this summer, and when they closed, it seemed the others followed in suit! YES, its impossible for petco to have more then 2 non sick fish. And the associates dont care. Sadly, its the bettas that take the fall D: I tried this summer to get a point through to the manager about the bettas, that the way they had kept them was killing them, not the supplier! He laughed at me and said I just dont understand the business world, and that its easier to lose 20 bettas apposed to buying a $60 dollar treatment that will only make them feel better for a little while. I was furious.

Thanks for the great suggestions ive actually ordered a heater online and cant wait to get it in! I actually have a lot of dried blood worms I was feeding my bettas when I had thought about breeding, would it make a difference if I used those apposed to buying different ones?

Are you sure? Haha (doesn't doubt you) But it would scare me! But I do have a local salt water tank that I could dip them in! BTW GUYS! ALL female/baby guppies have ick spots. Crazy how fast it developed. The angles do not have any spots that I can see, and I was very tempted to throw them in the 35 just to try and avoid them catching it from the guppies, but I didnt!

| Yes the saltwater dip does work. If you're affraid to do it then just put the salt in there tank. Our Petco is terrible. I stop in there ever so often and ALL fish in ALL there tanks are sick every time I go in there. I would NEVER buy fish from them. I have had better luck with Petsmart. | |

| I would probably say if you do decide to do the SW dip...take the water out of the SW tank into a container and dip in that instead of directly in someone's tank. Just in case they have something else that you are unaware of that could spread around. Just sayin' | |

| Yeah salt will help your fish as will temp raise...keep the tank clean since the fish are sick they might not want to eat. If your petcos are like the ones around here all the tanks on the rack use the same water this means one fish is sick they are all sick. | |

| ich has 3 cycles in the gravel, free swiiming and on the fish so just treating the fish will not help. Temps over 84 will kill the larva stage in the gravel and the free swimming keep the temp up for at least 2 weeks after you see no ich on the fish. With coppersafe you will not be able to pit snails/inverts in your because it stays in the tank forever and will kill them. I always treat ich with elevated temps of 86 (I breed angels) and no medications or salt and never lose a fish to ich. Get some plants in the tank so the young angels have a place to hide and reduce their stress level (They love floating plants). If you have any questions check here first not your LSF as they are just trying to pay rent. I'm not saying all shops but a high majority do not know what they are doing. |

| I would just leave them all in the same tank and treat them as suggested. Dipping them from what I've heard works too, just never tried it. Good luck | |

| You may wanna raise you temp up to 82 deg at least, warm water kills the ick process faster, i would just stay with ick treatment.. always done the treatment for a week at least, no carbon on the filter and no water changes till treatment is done.., then after that do a 50% water change and good to go..., i always tought the less products you put on the water the better it is (always worked for me) good luck!! | |

| Another suggestion is to purchase your fishes online. They will be shipped to you and usually come with a Guarantee . I agree with Ursula's treatment . Although I have not delt with ick in quite awhile (years) I never put salt in with my Angels. Guppies on the other hand can thrive in higher salt content. Heat is the key. My 2 cents worth ,, Ray | |

| 82 is to low 84 to 86 to kill larvae. They are still small so it hard to tell but you most likely have a gold and a marble. Pearlscale (diamonds) are very seldom sold at chain stores. |
