i killed em all....this will brake your heart

saterday before the alabama chapter meet. my best friend and i desided to change our over the back filtration to a canister filter. its a cascade 1500. its aways been a good filter to me. i dont know what went wrong. it was a 80g tank that we felt wasnt getting enough water flow. in it was 11 frontosa's. by the end of the day when we got back home 8 of the 11 fronts were dead. the only thing i can think of that might have coused this. was the water became to clean to quick. we check the water, every thing checked out ok. and the timp was 79. when we changed filters the water was alittle merky. when we got back the water was clear. so my best guess is it cleaned up to fast for the fronts to adapt. any thing like this ever happend to you?

very very expensive ouch, sad to hear but should had both filters running for a few days and pulled the old one

Sorry to hear that scotty, I know you were proud of them and I know thats an expensive mistake. Maybe that won't happen again.... I know everytime I lose a fish I feel like a part of me left. Next time we have a meeting..... lets NOT do a tank change before it lol

Wow that sucks. Was the new canister filter media rinsed out beforehand? I can't see how the water chemistry could've changed THAT fast. Here's a theory if the water was murky from the changing of the filters(and not murky from the get go): the filter bacteria came loose and caused the murkyness, and if the canister cleared it up the trapped filter bacteria in the canister took up a lot of the O2?

Maybe not since the filter is constantly pushing new oxygenated water through...any fish gasping for air?

Did you clean the filter with any chemicals of could chemicals gotten into it some way?

Scotty don't beat yourself up over it. We've all been there. It's a terrible thing to have happen. I accidentally killed all three of our beautiful 19" koi in our pond last summer.

When I had a Fx5 I would only change 3 of the 6 media pads. You can really freak the water out when u put all new media in on a canister.

All I can say is it hurts to hear about your lose. I had a tank of large discus die over nite. Never figured what happened. Sorry again for your lose.
