| I would LOVE an arrowanna, however, I know they are very agressive fish that will eat just about anything. But have known several people to have other large fish with them, and they lived happily together.
Does anyone have any stories, advice or info on this? Anyone ever done this successfully? Would like to have an arrowanna along with some oscars, catfish, pike, ect.. all large fish of course.
Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

| I have a 55, was thinking about getting a baby. A friend of mine has a 90G and a 125G that would take it if it got too big. Which is also a concern of mine, I do know they grow fast and am don't like to transfer fish all the time.
TY for your reply! | |

| You would be good for a while.Make sure the bigger fish can't swallow him because they'll think he's a worm.Unless you start with a bigger one.Oscars will grow faster them eventually eat him. You must keep the right ph or he will die eventually. Just keep him by himself until big enough.Won't handle hard water (mine didn't)must be on the softer side and proper ph. | |

| Hello last year I lost an Arowana. When she died she measured at 34 inches. I raised her in a 200 gal . This tank was too small for her. It didn't take that long to get her to this size, maybe 5 or 6 years. Over the years I had lots of different fish with her. as long as she couldn't swallow them they were fine. They are a really cool fish to raise!! | |

| I have had arrowanas in with silver dollars to good extent...It will out grow a 55 in less than a year.
Most of your larger mid water tropicals can go with arrowanas tinfoil barbs, lrg angels (for a time till arrow gets bigger and hungry one night). I would avoid other aggressive fish like jacks, oscars, pike ect. If you go to the pet store and see arrows with their eyes pointed down it is because they are constantly looking down for predators. Most of your larger bottom feeders would be ok as well lrg clown loaches, plecos, ect.
Just remeber if they can get it in their mouth it will end up in their mouth...have fun

| i have a 2' aro and have had her since she had a yolk sac attached. i have kept her with too many fish to count dats, bass, pikes, oscars, dempseys, rays, paraya, i found she was most skiddish around cichlids and that its not so much the other fish you worry about its the aro, very nervous fish and can hurt thereself very easily. a 180 is bare min but ideally a fishtank with a 4' wide footprint is the best | |

| The biggest and utmost thing in housing Arows....SIZE DOES MATTER!
This isn't an insult to you or anyone else for that matter, but if you can't support a very large volume tank, I would not even think about it. Unless you're 1000% certain you can build or buy the size they need......well...you get the idea. BTW...plywood and cinder block builds are relatively cheap. ;o)
Keep in mind that at full size, you're talking an almost 3' ft fish on average. I have seen bigger. Actually posted a link to a 10,000g tank that houses a ton of monster fish including Arapaima's.

| oh, I would love to see that! wheres the link at? and yes, totally agree. It is definelty not a fish I want in my 55 unless it is a baby and only housed in it until it gets to big, then have a bigger tank available. But was curious to see if anyone could have them in somewhat community tanks.
Would love to see the link on the 10,000G
