| I have a fish tank with 2 medium sized oscars, a little but bigger convict ciclid and a common pleco and a large royal pleco. And I want a arrowana. Would they all be compatible? And if not any suggestions of fish I could get to add to my tank. | |

| hopefully someone else with arrowana knowledge will answer that part about everyones compatibility, but you are def overstocked for a 55g.
someone else on here will help you decide how many gallons you will need if you plan to keep all those together. they are all fish that require a lot of space and get quite large.
i just asked because i know the "experts" on here will ask before they can help.
Good luck and welcome to the forum!
ps: the experts in quotations was not sarcastic, it was just to point out i am Not one of them ;)

| Personally.....I would not get an Arowana if I didn't have at least a 125 to start. Notice I said "to start". These are monster fishies and are gonna need a very large tank.
Also, they are excellent jumpers. Tank needs to be completely sealed.
As for compatibility, they all should work together.
But please do keep in mind the tank size will be critical. This is not a dig on you or anything, but I advise people against them if they don't have the means for proper housing to start with. More times than not, I have seen that "one day I'll have...." never come. It's the same as RTCs. If you want one .... be very well prepared to offer a very large home.
Let me find a link to a very awesome arowana...stand by

It's only a small 10,000g tank. ;oP
Oh...and not to forget the main feature of the tank ... Sam .... who is one huge Arapaima.

| I thought about posting that link as well but don't know how the forum here feels about linking to other forums. Some frown upon it. There are a couple good links that show the build of that mammoth tank. | |

| I was thinkin' that also , but then I said to myself , self , we are a group of fish freaks on this site . But we don't "specialize" per se , so if someone needs something , then we should be able to supply that link to help. It is not to subvert anything , but ,to assist. That being said , if admin. wants to delete my post , so be it , they have my permission. | |

| My experience with arrowanas were with my brother. He had one in a 55 gallon(by itself) that grew to almost 2' long, from one of those 3" babies from the pet store. However, no amount of securing the top kept it from jumping out; it was just too strong. You'd almost have to take silicone and caulk the majority to the top to be safe. It can find the little openings(the ones left for the cords and filter tubes) to jump out of.
55gals was tiny for the arrowana, and it was by itself! It was just swimming in circles and couldn't go anywhere else.
I can't imagine how that arrapaima is contained!

| Big no-no! Your standard silver arowana will get 4' long. Get a 4' x 8' tank before you think of getting one. |

| I appreciate all the advice. But what's a RTC? And whats a easy fix to bullying in a tank?? My convict is a little bigger than my oscars so he thinks he runs the tank. | |

Easy fix...seperate. Otherwise, when the Oscars come of age, it will balance out.

| Oh. Okay. Thanks for that. And I thought about separating but don't have room in my apartment for another tank really so I think I'll just see how it goes the oscars hold there own pretty well any ways. An my royal pleco is a monster so he's fine. Lol. | |

| I lost an Arowana awhile back. She was 34 inches when she died. I raised her in a 200gal. This tank was too small. They get spooked easily. | |

| If you cannot afford at least 180 gallon tank stay away from arowanna. Oscars are not overly aggressive but highly territorial and aros are way too skittish to handle the constant harrasment it would take. And yoyr tank is way stocked I wouldnt put anymore fish in it | |

| NO a piranha can't go with those. He will kill them. They can only live with other piranhas. | |

| yep, no way an arrowanna would go in a 55 permenantly. unless it is just a baby and you have at least a 125 to go into once it outgrows the 55 which would take all of about 6 months. I posted on the general fish forum asking if anyone was able to keep it in a community tank, and people had great answers. I have a 55, and would love an arrowanna. They grow very fast. But if you a tank large enough that it can be transfered to when it outgrows the 55, or someone else does that would take it, then I would say go ahead. But keep in mind, they are aggressive fish, they will eat anything they can, which is why most of the time, you see arrowannas in tanks by themselves or with other AW's and not much else.
But man they are amazing fish if you have a large enough tank!
I had a friend with a 300G tank (GORGEOUS TANK) with 2 AW's in it, one that was 3 ft long, he was pretty massive, and that 300 gal tank was too small for him.
