Hi. I'm Joodie from Va Beach, VA. I'm just starting out with this fish stuff. I think it will teach me some patience! I have a couple of Betta for the kids. But I would love to have a full set up of brackish puffers.. :) they are too darn cute~
hope you guys can give me some advice here. I love to hear from experience rather than just google. LOL

Welcome! I see you are in Virginia Beach good to see someone else close to me! If you didn't already get some pictures up of that tank. I agree those puffer fish are too funny to watch.
I am sure there are plenty of people on here that have had puffer tanks setup as well. Tons of great info!

Hey, Joodie. TankGirl has a great brackish set-up for her puffer. Check it out here: https://usafishbox.forumotion.com/t6674-my-tanks-updated She has the brackish thing nailed! I've seen her puffer Otis in person and he is quite the character.

I have notice that at times the people working are hanging out in some corner and not really doing anything. They are fairly good about information there but some of the sales people really lack knowledge in specific types of fish. Most will be able to tell you "aggressive" or not but will likely have a very limited ability to tell male and female a part which makes things more difficult in some of their mixed tanks (like rainbows/tetra/dannios/Gouramis.)
One nice thing is their plant section has recently expanded. They don't have any rare plants but they are taken care of fairly well. I have found that very few of the sales people have experience in plants though. They will spill out talk of the major things Phosphate/Lights/ Nitrates ect... but when it comes to growing this or that plant CO2/water hardness ect. they really have no clue.
All in all I now firmly believe that if you want to succeed in something it is best to research prior to going and buying. We do it for everything else (Home/Car/Job) but when it comes to fish it is just oo pretty "I'll take 6" hehe. Then we get them home and they all die and we say well I hate fish so much for that... Just a little research and we avoid a huge mess when it comes to these fish stores.
Once you go there a few times you will know who to rely on. Then it is just a matter of waiting for them unless you already know what you need.

If your interested in puffers also check out Skoolz of fish from Richmond (Rama is the owner). If he doesn't have them he will order them for you and very reliable. Here's his link
