Where do you get your pretty bettas?

I see you guys with all different varieties of Betta. Where do you get them? I'm stuck with PetSmart, Petco, and some mom and pop shops but they all only have crown tails and what they label as "regular" betta. Please help.

Very pretty ili but is there something sharp in his tank that he's shredding is caudal fin on? It looks torn up. Other then that he looks nice and healthy. Good job.

only thing besides fake plants is that little plastic wood thing in the pic. i wouldnt think its sharp. its the only thing in the tank.

Your bettas are very pretty whisper. My gf and daughter happened to see the pics as I was scrolling and now they want a betta.

Yes a good betta can be expensive. I think you see mostly veiltail (VT) bettas in LFS at least in places like petsmart.

Never use plastic plants in a Betta tank. Can you get some broad leave silk plants. I say broad leaf because they like to lay on them to rest.

one was swimming upside down in his cup... I take it that's a bad sign?? I'm slowly learning here folks. :P

whisper has great betta if you really want a good betta.

the beautiful butterfly HM above, looks like he chomps his tail up. i've seen that many times in my Delta, Dante.


i get my bettas from a pet store here in South Carolina called Pet Lover's Warehouse. it's an amazing little place, and most of the employees know their stuff. so far, i've gotten all, but one from them. never saw dead ones in the cups, the cups are cleaned daily, never even saw a deformity or illness in them. i think they get them from a breeder out west, who doesn't just 'mass-produce' them like the ones many petco's, petsmarts, and walmarts get their's from.

Petco, Petsmart, Walmart and all large chain stores get there Bettas from the Asians who are the largest exporters in the world. The ones they export for these stores are either out breed, old, or not the colors they are looking for to show and use for there breeding stock. Doesn't mean there is anything wrong with them they just are not good quality fish. Better for pets.

i always heard they get the bettas from 'betta mills', who just churn out bettas, without worrying about the health or genes. o.o
