New here, from Richmond VA!

Hi, I'm new here. Originally from New York, I now live in the Richmond VA area - actually, Short Pump!

I've been in the hobby about 10 years and my main interest is small South American catfish - Corydoras, Ancistrus, Panaque, Dekeyseria, Bunocephalus - to name but a few! I'd like to name a few more but I don't have the room in my tanks, right now! I also love livebearers.

A friend turned me on to this website and it seems very nice so far! Lots of activity and great people.

Currently, I have four tanks running, and two nano tanks.

My latest project is a 29 gallon room divider, in the works!

I try to make the rounds of the available shops in my immediate area, but so many of them have closed.

My favorite and the best LFS for all kinds of fish IMO is Azalea Aquariums up there on the Richmond-Henrico Turnpike. It's not that close to me, so I usually go with a very good friend of mine and we can spend an hour, easily, just looking in every tank and peeking into the side rooms, where there might be such oddities as sidthimunki loaches or the odd blue panaque. They don't have much in the way of supplies. Have you been there?

Locally, I usually go to Perfect Pets on Broad or the PetSmart nearest me. I can't say I buy much in either of them but I try to get something at least, even if it's only a can of special dog food.

I liked the Broad Street location of Fin & Feather, even though they didn't have much in the way of new or special things. I bought my cherry barbs there, and they had the healthiest Otocinclus I've seen in the area so far. The manager, Tim, was very nice and very helpful to me; gave me a lot of sound advice on equipment. All the staff was nice. Sadly, it has closed as have the Ridgefield Parkway and the Parham Road locations of The Pet Club. That was a pretty good store, even though they had some surly staff near the end.

I have bought new aquariums from Perfect Pets and the odd supply, but honestly for supplies in general I like Drs. Foster & Smith or Pet Solutions, on-line. The customer service is unparalleled.

I'm on the far south side so I usually go to petsmart on Hull st if I need supplies (emergency only). I usually use petmountain online as shipping is only $6.99.

Welcome fellow virginian...man i wish we can get some more southside people here...Good timing on joining up we are starting a Virginia chapter and fishvixen is in charge...Can not wait for the first meeting, Love meeting new people that share in my hobbies/addictions

Good for you! I'll look for your photos, I'd like to see them. I finally got my hands on some wild-caught C. julii. They are as different from C. trilineatus as night and day.
