| I agree on the "OMG" about the play sand.
Ya should only use silica sand. It's the same sand that is on the beach.
Aren't ya from Houston? Why aren't ya using FREE beach sand?

| i looked for silica sand at home depot and all they got is the stuff that goes in ash trays. is this the same stuff? | |

Is it silica sand? If yes, then it's safe for aquariums. Just wash it to get any dust out of it. If you can stir it in water and it immediately settles and the water stays clear, then it's clean and ready to use.
I have about 500lbs of tan medium grain silica sand. And about 100lbs of fine white silica sand.

| I like the color and I have never lost a fish with it(never). It's not filthy at all. I don't loss as much sand during cleaning and water changes. I like to stay with what works for me. The picture is 6 hours after adding it. I'm going to use pool filter sand in the next show tank(75gal.). | |

| Look for pool filter sand. If it has a bunch of cancer warnings it is silica sand. 50LB's only cost me $5 at home depot. I can vacuum it almost like I can gravel, I do use an over sized siphon though....... |

| It was 5.99 at a pool maint. store here in houston. I'ma give it a try to see if I like it. I want have my 75 set up no time soon , maybe later this month. | |
