| First topic message reminder :Well here is a pic of the tank and stand, not the prettiest tank or stand but it was cheap Figuring out how to set the wood in the tank and making sure it would fit. This will be a fully planted tank with 4-5ish young discus and a colony of corys, undecided on kind yet. Possibly something else added later on..... I will have a 36" dual power compact light on it, I have it so this is a perfect tank to use it on. Filtration will be a new aquaclear 110 and a fully cycled aquaclear 70, subject to change later on. That's it for now.....

| I just let it float, it will sink when its good and ready too! The fish seem to get out of the way when it does, I haven't found one squished yet |

| Water and a few plants coming soon. The light won't be on the 2x4's for a day or 3, I need to wait 8hrs for the stain to dry and then another 8 for the urethane to dry So till then it will just be sitting crooked on the tank |

| Yaaaa. Like how I'm having to trickle water into the tank really really slow for the first few inches so I don't mess up the sand............ |

| Now theres plants, water, wood and a filter..... and kind of a light, its not on the tank right yet but its there. I pulled a few 'gems' out of my sump, the pretty stuff is sort of wasted there. Plants I have names for are; giant hygro, Madagascar lace leaf (thanks Jack), micro sword, money wart..... Can't remember the names of the rest off the top of my head. |

| very nice!!!! its going to be a very good set up wen ur done with it!!! then once u get everything done and wait a little for it to cycle and there u go a beautiful discus tank. | |

| There will be no cycle, I have a fully colonized aquaclear 70 filter I will move to this tank just before I get some fish in it. I always have spare filters running on tanks just for that reason |

| Wow Very nice walk thru. Looks like a labor of love.
Was wondering .....
Can you boil peatmoss the same way you do top soil for substrate...I used to run peat in my older angel/discus tanks but that was expensive and did not last too long.
Once again great looking tank can't wait to see it with fish. | |

| I don't see why not, just cap it well with sand so it doesn't get all over the place, you will still get the tannin benefit. I get plenty of tannins from my dirt even with an inch or two of sand covering it. Boil it well in an old pillow case and lay it down while still wet, pat it down in the tank about 1/2-1" should do ya. Yup got all of that done today too But I think I have managed to throw my back out in the process Oh well such is the life of a fish addict |

| Well the wood has sunk quite a bit more overnight, still floating a bit but not too much. I need to get a heater and thermometer in there. 250w sound about right? |
