| So I have many differant kinds of SA cichlids and I just love them. I have always wanted discus but was sure I could do it. Everyone makes them out to be so hard to care for. So after lots of thinking it over. I bought one. The only healthy one I found at my lfs 2" $20 red pigeo. Of some kind. I got to the store right as the fish were being taken out of boxes. So I got to take this guy home before he went in to their tanks. There were 3 the other 2 looked like death and had some open wound. My guy was swimming around and looked good in his yellow dirty water. He is an only discus right now and doing great for only being in the tank for 13 hr. He eats and swims around. Comes to the front of the tank when I go to look at him. I'm looking to find my rescue uaru a new home so I can make room for discus. Also my uaru are not as cool as I thought they would be. They hide all the time and are skitish. My one 2" discus is more out going then these 2 5" uaru. Anyway here he is. Peep is the name. Not the color I would have picked but besides that he is great. | |

| Too bad you do not live in the Dallas, Ft. Worth area. I know a guy who breeds them and sells the babies for ten bucks. He even cuts a deal when you buy allot of them. That is where all of my discus have came from. Every one i found in lfs run around $50 each. I currently have 6 and am waiting on another one to breed so i can get some of its fry. (wild card discuss) I think that is the name of it. Good luck on yours, they can be difficult at times. | |

| Just keep up with your small water changes and you'll be fine. Just make sure to only do 10% or so though. I've found with picky fish that the big water changes I normally do (30%-50%) are really hard on them. I would lose German Blue Rams because the water quality changed to the good, but it changed too fast. Small fluctuations are better. | |

| I have 9 discus right now and am fortunate that I know 3 local breeders. Since Peep just shipped in, I would get a few tablets of Metro and for the next 5 days, I would disolve 1/2 a tablet of metro in a small amount of water (very small amt) along with some dried blood worms (dried not frozen)....let the metro and the worms soak together for an hour and then feed the mixture to him. this should eliminate any internal parasites. this should be his only feeding during these 5 days and preferably in the morning. best of luck to you...he should color up more once he gets settled in... | |

| Allen j t............How are your Discus doing?......Still messing with the plants?........I lost a 2 inch Pigeon Blood recently, but the others look great......I even broke down and tried some Asian bred Discus......You gotta treat them with Jungle Parasite Clear because they are full of parasites......The live black worm that LFSs feed their fish are usually infested with parasites also, so be wary.

| They like live blackworms. I would not feed beef heart, only feed aquatic meat to fish. |

| Beef hart is fine as long as you remove the un-eaten portion so it will not spoil in the water. That is what i feed to mine when they was little and in a 20 gallon to grow them out. I usually feed it to them shortly before i did a water change on the tank. Now i feed frozen blood worms, frozen tubifex, frozen brine shrimp. | |

| I've got a set just under 2" that get 50%+ water changes daily and frozen foods including beefheart anytime I'm at home, with an autofeeder dropping granuales when I'm not. It's surprising how much cr@p builds on the glass,I wipe down at least twice a week. But once they get big enough they'll be in a big planted tank and all that won't be possible. | |
