| i am in need of some info on breeding calvus? i recently got 12 white calvus about 2.5- 3" in length. they are in a 80 gallon with some shells and sand substrate. the other tank mates include kilesa and cyp black bee. so when will they start breeding? what do you breed yours in? do they only breed as pairs or will one male court with several females? i have more but we can start with these. | |

| They might want to be alone. Ive had fish that wont breed with other tank mates. IDK much about Calvus but i thought i would throw that in | |

| From what I hear they prefer to breed in pairs but will do so in a colony if the group isn't aggressive. Maybe let them pair up in your tank and then move a pair to another tank and leave the rest in a colony and see what happens? I know you might not have the tanks to do that since your space is limited, but maybe that'll work? Let is know how it turns out! Good luck! | |

| Ok. I use pvc elbos plugged at one end instead of shells. You have to keep them spread apart because females r territorial just like males. If u have caves u will find them breeding or rearing the babies on the bottom near the substrate. Also you may have to many males in the tank 2 would be good. But remember I said may I have seen cichlids do strangs things sometimes. Reason being too many males too much fighting and no time for breeding. Even if they are not hurting each other they r still to concerned with each other and can not take an interest in the female. Sooner or later one of the males will be picked on and may be killed. Yes for the most part they are one on one fish; pairing. If you see them pairing then you can seperate the pairs and they may breed. Tanganyikans are very slow growers and r sensitve to water quatily more so then other Africans. In my experience when you move some cichlids from one to another tank they may not breed cause you just changed their whole world. Other don't care and adjust easy. Also it is important on what you feed them believe it or not food can play a huge role on getting them to breed. Try some live earthworms cut up this sometimes helps. They will breed when ready water is right proper food they find a mate. Be patient and watch for the pairing.
Have a great day. Hope this helps. | |

| I use 3/4 inch and some 1 inch 90s..Gives them a choice some like the space smaller. Yes just a cap nothing fancy. Yeh if you got babies about 1.5 years or longer they do grow slow. But frequent water changes 35-40% weekly and the right food will help. | |

| Well they r a challange but if your up for it it is rewarding. That is why tang. cost so much, picky slow growers, and breed under the right conditions. Alot like Fronts. although I think Frots r a little easier. Hey if you r into wanting to breed something let me know I may be able to help out. If there is something you want to breed let me know I may have it heck I may even sell you adults if I have them. | |

| I know who has Kilesa. I just spoke to him and he wants too much for them. They are F1 at 1.5" and they are $30.00 each or $25.00 each if you buy 6 or more. | |
