| Some of my past fishy have eaten anything from large goldfish to adult mice. Beefheart was a staple, along with whole large shrimp and crawfish. Dang tank just required way above filtration and water changes every few days. | |

| My fish eat better than I do. I feed fish, lettuce, carrots, cucumber, squash, peas, green beans, sweet potato, garlic, dill, shrimp, zuchini, mango, apple, etc...
I also use all the above blended together for a frozen food. Making my own food, I can get 2-3 months of food for around $10.00. I can also tailor the blends depending on the needs of the fish, ie...higher protien for fry and those who prefer a higher protien diet, and higher vegetation for those who will ignore the protien based foods.

Pacu, Silver Dollars, Africans (Mbuna, Red Jewel), Gourami, Angels, Discus, Rainbow Sharks, Guppies, Platies, Mollies, Corydoras, Clown Loach, Silver Hatchet, Zebra Danio, Bloodfin Tetra, Neon Tetra, Serpe Tetra, Skirt Tetra, Plecostomus (various)...
how do u make their food?? into cubes or somthin? Spread it onto a cookie sheet and lay flat in the freezer. Once frozen, cut or break into appropriate sized cubes or chunks. Using the blends helps to ensure everybody gets what they need regardless what their tank mates eat. It's all in there.

do u mix veggis AND fruit in the same blend?? Yes and yes. The pieces float until they fully thaw. Then they will slowly sink (if there's anything left to sink). This gives fish at all levels an opportunity to feed. If I notice that the bottom feeders aren't getting a "fair share", I'll thaw it fully in a small bowl and release it near the bottom of the tank while the others are busy at the top. While I don't usually fully thaw the food, I do leave it out for several minutes to ensure the fish aren't trying to bite into a solidly frozen cube. Just enough for the outside of the cubes to start breaking away. With this method, by the time to top feeders are done, the centers are starting to make their way slowly towards the middle and bottom. It has gotten to the point that I have to fully thaw the Pacu food, as they are taking it out of my hand when I feed the heavy veggie mix.

| I currently have three mixes. One is 80% produce, one is 30% produce, and one is all fish. I use whatever I (my wife) can find on sale, the only difference being the ratio of fish/shrimp to produce.
I don't have any SA cichlids, but the Africans will eat pretty much anything I drop in. I usually give them a combination of the two mixes. The Pacu and Silver Dollars get the 80% produce mix and tear it up. The angels, gouramis, and tetras get the 30% produce mix, and fry get the all fish. If the fry are newly hatched, they will get egg yolk, and as they begin to grow, I will add egg yolk to the fish.
Bettas get the fish only. I also feed blood worms, brine shrimp, flakes and pellets. I try to feed several times a day, and keep their feeding varied. The good thing about making my own, is if I run out of one of the commercial foods, all I have to do is make my own with the right ratio to replace it. The food is fresher, and much less expensive that way.

| You may need to add some water to get it to blend, but keep it at a minimum. No secrets, just whatever you can find. If you use cucumber, you'll have to peel it to remove the wax they usually put on them. Other than that, just make sure everything is clean and thoroughly mixed. | |

| If she gives you any grief about using it for fish food, ask her what ingredient in the mix she is opposed to. It's all food most people eat on a daily basis!! Also make sure she sees you cleaning it after use. That should help keep any irritation to a minimum. If that doesn't work, explain how much you'll be saving on your fish food bill! | |
